A special Thank you...

A special thank you from the DJD Fight On Foundation to everyone who gave Christmas donations to the Robbins family. Your generosity helped make the holidays a little brighter for the family. I wish I could send everyone a personal thank you card, but unfortunately too many gifts were left anonomously. Everyone at the DJD Fight On Foundation wants you to know we truly appreciate your continued selfless giving in order to help a family you don't even know. You can see a picture of the Robbins family at www.djdfighton.org

Another big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Zvorsky, who generously donated money to the Foundation in lieu of favors at their recent wedding! Thank you so much, and we wish you many years of happiness!

We also want to thank everyone for all the support, donations, and volunteer efforts during the 2011 year. Thanks to your generosity and support, the DJD Fight On Foundation has given more than $70,000 to families battling cancer, and continued Derrick's legacy. We look forward to a successful 2012, and hope to continue Derrick's mission. We wish all of you a happy, safe, and blessed 2012~

Thank you

Today marks the 3rd anniversary of Derrick's passing and I can't say that Derrick's family or I do not miss him terribly, but we could have never imagined the outpouring of support for the DJD Fight On Foundation in rememberance of Derrick. All of you who knew Derrick, knew what kind of man he was. The number of families that have been helped becasue of Derrick is a true testament to how inspiring of an individual he was. Thank you to everyone who helps conitnue Derrick's mission and helps his legacy live on! We all are blessed to have our lives touched by such a man, who looked at adversity, and instead of feeling sorry for himself, asked how he could help others who were less fortunate than him. Thank you Derrick for reminding us what is important in life- to be grateful for what we have, and to give back when we can. Your memory lives on, and you will forever remind us not to sweat the small stuff. We love you~

New Families

Everyone at the DJD Fight On Foundation want to thank all our supporters and volunteers for allowing us to keep helping local families battling cancer. Check out www.djdfighton.org for recent pictures and letters of families helped. Two new families will be added soon! With the most recent families helped, Derrick's Foundation has donated $70,200, to families battling cancer. Without the help and support of all of you NONE of this would be possible.

The newest family helped is the Robbin's family. The father Curtis Robbins (32) was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and he was the primary financial supporter for his wife and 4 boys ( Curtis III- age 11, Trey- age 9, Landon- age 3, and Declan- 5months). The DJD Fight On Foundation is asking for support and donations for this family for Christmas. We would love any and all support we can get for this family :) Here are a few ideas- Curtis wears size 16 and Trey wears says 14 or 12 husky. Both of these older boys like K'nex and Legos. Landon wears size 3T and likes anything in his age group or preschool, and Declan wears size 12 months and liek anything in his age grou pand musical noise makers. The family also likes the following movies: Transformers 3, Harry Potter, Mars needs Moms, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Zoolander, Harry Potter, and Gnomeo and Juliet. Any non perishable food items or gift certificates for Walmart or Weis would be great too!
* If your interested in getting an item, leave a comment, so more than one person does not get the same thing! Thanks so much! Happy Holidays!

Happy Birthday

Tomorrow is Derrick's 26th birthday, Happy Birthday Derrick! Let's celebrate the day by taking some time to recall a happy, inspirational, or just plain silly memory that you experienced with him. If you'd like to share, that would be great! Thank you, Derrick, for teaching us how to love deeply and cherish each and every day. Your smile is forever ingrained in our hearts and minds. We love you and miss you!

Pam and Dave Burns

Here is a letter from the newest family we helped. Thanks to everyone who continues to support the DJD Fight On Foundation, so we can help families like these. Check the website out in a few days www.djdfighton.org for a picture of Pam and Dave Burns.

Dear Mindy and the DJD Fight on Foundation:

As a writer, I was almost at a loss as to how to start this letter to Mindy and your group. I want to find just the right words to express to you the gratitude Dave and I feel about your generous donation. Throughout Dave’s ordeal I have been consistently and constantly amazed at how generous, supportive and wonderful people can be. It is truly inspiring and very humbling.
First, let me tell you a little bit about Dave. He was first diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia 15 years ago when he was in his 30s. He did receive an auto transplant at that time, which put him in remission for one year. He then received a second transplant from a MUD (Matched Unrelated Donor). The second transplant was successful in keeping Dave in remission for 14 years!! In August 2009, just days before our 2nd wedding anniversary, Dave got a call from his doctor that his leukemia had returned. He underwent intensive chemotherapy, which was successful at putting him back in remission for a year. By February 2011, the leukemia had returned once again. Dave just underwent inpatient chemotherapy at Fox Chase/Temple in Philadelphia for 5 days. He is now at Geisinger slowly recovering, as we wait for his white blood cell count to return. He has had a few fevers, but other than just general tiredness and some pain, Dave is doing well. We just received word that he will receive a Donor Lymphocyte Infusion (mini-transplant) in a few weeks back at Fox Chase/Temple.
If anyone knows Dave, they know what a positive person he is. His trademark optimism has helped to keep me sane through much of this, since I did not know Dave when he was first diagnosed. In fact, when Dave was well he often called on and visited others in the community who were diagnosed with leukemia. A few years ago he also participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training event, bicycling 100 miles in one day and raising $5,300 for LLS.
I will say that Dave has some bad days. Now on the cusp of receiving his 3rd bone marrow transplant, Dave has the worries of not only will the transplant be effective, but he worries about me and the bills as well – something I constantly tell him not to worry about, instead telling him to concentrate only on himself and getting better. The generous donation from the DJD Fight On Foundation will help tremendously in negating Dave’s fears about me and the household bills. Truth be told, we both had tears in our eyes when I read the email from Mindy telling us how much your foundation agreed to give to us.
You are truly doing something wonderful and carrying on a great legacy in Derrick’s memory.
As I stated earlier, Dave and I have been truly blessed to encounter such wonderful people that have offered us prayers, support, and donations to help us through this journey.
Thank you Mindy and DJD Foundation for all that you do. It is nice that you can offer a lending hand, having experienced what many of us are experiencing now – trying to fight this horrible disease, supporting our loved ones, paying our bills, working, traveling to and from appointments – all which are very taxing to the spirit and the physical body. Mindy, you are an incredibly strong person for reaching out and helping others as you do. You understand how overwhelming it all can be and we thank from the bottom of our hearts.
Our hope is to pay it forward when we get the chance.
In Sincere Appreciation,
Pam and Dave Burns
Thanks and Have a Great Day!
