My chemo has caused my blood counts to drop in the past week or so. Because of this I had to go to the hospital yesterday to get platelets infused. This is a routine procedure. The chemo kills off the bad cells, but it also kills off the good ones too. Other than that, I have been feeling pretty good except for being confined to the house without visitors. I feel really blessed that my body is responding so well. The only bad news is that I am a little depressed that the Tarheels lost in the final four. I guess there is always next year! Mindy and I are back to high school summer schedule where we stay up real late, and sleep in really late. Surprisingly, when you not required to get up it's really easy to get into this pattern. I have my next appointment with my doctor later this month to decide what is the next course of treatment is. My appetite is back and I am enjoying delicious meals cooked by family and friends.

Hey I enjoyed seeing you over the weekend and I hope you and Mindy enjoyed the dino ice cream cake and the cookies. When you run out of sweets I still have banana cake in the freezer and I can make a chocolate cake in no time flat! I also have mastered my mom's rice crispie treats which have always been favorite for years! Anything else you want just gimme some notice and I'll make it. As for the Tarheels, let's hope they get'em next year, but the best of cops was pretty good. Too bad that knife went into that lady's stomach.
Hey D!
Congratulations on being newly engaged, that is so exciting! Marcy has somehow got me interested in sports (seriously, i filled out a march madness bracket and everything...) and I too was disappointed to see UNC lose. (I picked them to win it all!) I hope all is well and you're enjoying your "high school summer schedule"!
I'm sure soon you'll be out and about. Just in time for good weather. Nothing wrong with enjoying a little summertime schedule in the spring. Praying that things continue to go well for you.

Hi Derrick,
I read about your leukemia diagnosis in the Ephrata Review recently, and I wanted to let you know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I have been through a similar experience, and to a certain extent, understand what you are going through. I, too, am a 2003 Ephrata graduate, and was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma two years ago. I received 12 treatments of chemo over 6 months, and I've been in remission for a year and a half now. Isn't it wierd how you can be living a "normal" life one moment, and the next, you're thinking about blood counts, and things you couldn't have cared less about before your diagnosis? Anyway, just know that I've been praying that chemo is easy on you, and that you are quickly healed.
