Day +1

During his rounds, Derrick's doctor said that everything continues to look well, even though Derrick feels really yucky. The doctor said this is completely normal and it will get better with time. Surprisingly, they really are focused on getting him over his hiccups. Since Derrick has had hiccups for three days straight he has caused severe irritation to an already irritated GI tract. They just want to get it under control so he doesn't get a tear in his esophagus because this would be a site for infection. They feel this will also pass within the next few days. Derrick slept nearly the entire day today, because he was awake all night not feeling well. Basically, we are just in a "waiting" period now. Waiting for him to feel better, waiting to make sure the new cells engraft, and waiting for his counts to recover. His counts have basically bottomed out. He received a platelet infusion today, but they continued to drop so he got another infusion tonight. His white blood cells are now officially 0, which means 0 immune system. This is all to be expected. Donna and Jim are coming tomorrow, so hopefully their visit will give him a much needed boost. Until then we are just praying that these hiccups stop so it gives his esophagus a breather. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers!

I'm in CA for training for work, but continue to pray every day for you. It's great that even from CA I can keep up with things. I know you don't always feel like writing but thank you for doing this. All my thoughts and prayers for all of you.
Love, Jodi
