Day +8

Today started out with Derrick getting his first fever today around 2:00 a.m., so that was a bummer. Thankfully, it didn't hang around for long. The next time they checked his temperature it was already gone, and he didn't even get any Tylenol or anything. They did change one of his anti biotics to cover a more broad spectrum of infections. They also drew cultures and did a chest xray, both are protocol when anyone gets a fever. They said the fever was nothing to worry about, actually they said if he wouldn't have gotten a fever that would have been weird. I am just so thankful it went away! He received another dose of red blood cells today, because they were a little low, but he did not need platlets today. The mucuositis in his mouth is clearing up, now he is just battling an extremly swollen sore throat. The doctor said this would clear up as soon as his counts jump up, which he is hoping won't be too far away. The doctor said that by this weekend he should really start to feel better. This is great news! Derrick had another neupogen shot to boost his counts today, hopefully this will take effect in a couple days. He did get out of bed today and rode his stationary bike for a little. He also took an extra long shower today, since he was disconnected from his IV pole. Every four days he gets disconnected for an hour to get the tubing changed. The rash he had on his body, which they think was caused by a reaction to an antibiotic, is clearing up. It no longer itches and has decreased in size. We got a lot of cards in the mail today, and we really wanna thank everyone for that. It is a great way to start the day waking up to cards to let Derrick know everyone is thinking about him. We also got a really nice care package in the mail yesterday, from friends back home and my mom. Unfortunately, Derrick hasn't been able to enjoy the goodies yet, but I am sure he will in the next couple of days.

I lift my eyes up to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
