Day -4

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It's Mindy again, Derrick fell asleep before he could post an entry. He had another pretty good day today. He still hasn't eaten much because food and drinks both taste weird to him right now. He had some nausea today, but his nurse gave him some anti nausea medicine which puts him right to sleep. Whenever he gets the medicine I know he will be asleep within minutes which is good because he was worried he wouldn't been able to sleep tonight since he took a long nap today. During their visit today, his team of doctors said that everything continues to look good. Tomorrow he starts the new kind of chemo along with horse serum. I guess the horse serum suppresses his immune system so that the new cells won't feel attacked by his old ones. I am still amazed with medical research. They said that most of tomorrow he will be in a cloudy daze and asleep. They are going to be giving him Benadryl and some steroids to help him with the side effects from the horse serum. The second day of the treatment is supposed to be easier because his body will be used to it. He is still on schedule for his transplant on Thursday. He is looking forward to it. We both have spoken many times about how many things had to line up in order for this transplant to proceed. It's hard to believe that the day is quickly approaching. We are so thankful that our prayers have been answered and we have been so blessed up until this point. Please continue to pray for Derrick that he remains infection free, the treatment rids him of leukemia, and the new donor cells engraft. Donna, Jim, and Marcy left today after a really nice weekend visit. Please continue to keep them in your prayers as well as I know it is difficult for them to be away from Derrick. Also if you see Donna tomorrow don't forget to wish her a Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
