Here is an update on what we know as of now. Derrick was diagnosed with AML. He is young and very healthy (except for his diabetes which we're being told should not present any additional concerns). He is in good spirits and is determined to beat this thing. His chemotherapy treatments begin today.
Thank you to all who have already responded, it means so much to have such wonderful caring friends. If you were thinking of sending flowers, please don't, he is not permitted to have them in the cancer wing. Please feel free to visit him, send cards, call or whatever. He is in room 6131 at Hershey Medical Center.
That's all I have for now, but will continue to keep you informed.
