chemo starts - friday

Derrick started his chemotherapy program last night about 10:30. It will run 24 hrs/day for 7 days straight. His body tolerated the treatment fairly well and he didn't become too nauseous. When Derrick entered the hospital on Tuesday, his white blood cell count was 122, 000 (8,000-12,000 is normal). As of this morning his count was 17,000 which means his body is not fighting the chemotherapy, good news! He feels good and is in good spirits at this time, however, this will change over the next few days. We are being told that his immune system will be non-existent and he will become more tired as the treatment progresses. Derrick is asking not to have any visitors beginning Monday. We have shared with him the outpouring of care and concern from so many. He is truly blessed to have such wonderful friends and family surrounding him and praying for his recovery.
