Fever Hangs On

Yesterday Derrick continued his battle with fever, unfortunately he was not winning the battle and the fever was. In the morning the doctors requested a CAT scan because they thought maybe he had an infection somewhere that they weren't detecting through his blood cultures. They did find something that they thought looked "suspicious" and therefore changed his antibiotic to something stronger. This is definitely not uncommon for patients who are one week out from the kind of chemotherapy treatment Derrick had. As of last evening when we left the hospital about midnight he was receiving his new antibiotic, which we're being told will take about 24-48 hrs to fully penetrate his system and attack the infection and also bring the fever down. We are hoping that Derrick has an appetite today so he can enjoy some of the chocolates that Mindy bought for him. We are also looking forward to spending the day with two people whose love for each other will get them through anything that life might throw at them. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Don't forget to tell the one you love how special they are to you.

Keep on fighting that fever brother! Stay strong in there and use some of that Dull charm to be nice to the nurses today so you don't have to fire any more of them.

Ok "D" squared every time you get a fever Kansas loses at basketball. Since I want them to take it all I need the doctors cooperation! Tell them how important basketball is to me! And by the way tell them how much it would mean to me to have you home with your family like it should be.
Look to your left. look to your right, yah thats right God is there so don't worry! See ya soon! The Harmes family

Dully, ever since the days that you were putting me to shame in Algebra 2, I've known you can handle anything. You're going to kick that fever's ass. I know you're going to pull through this with the strength of your friend's and family's amazing love and support behind you.

Love, Lindsay

Dereck,

We read the comments everyday and it's great to see how many friends you have. I can't wait to see you feeling better. We've known you for a long time and spent many great summers at OBX. My favorite is Bowie and the shaving cream escapade. You guys almost got your butts kicked but it was funny. Now we want to see you kick this fever and get well soon. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear of your setbacks and I don't shed many tears. I'm tough you know (You have to decide if this is Craig or Michele writing this). I am sure God will bring you through this. We will say a prayer for you.

Hope to see you home soon.

Love Craig & Michele
